The National Police have arrested a fugitive from France who was subject to a European Arrest Warrant (EAW) for extradition issued by the French authorities. The man was wanted for a serious assault that took place in 2018.
The incidents for which he was sought, and for which he faces a three-year prison sentence, occurred in the French town of Argentan. There, the fugitive was convicted of assaulting a third party who attempted to claim a drug debt. The attack left the victim with significant injuries that adversely affected their daily life.
Due to these events, the arrested individual, who had been evading justice in his home country, was sentenced to three years in prison, of which he has 2 years and 11 months remaining to serve.
The National Police located him in a public area when he attempted to evade officers upon noticing their presence. Upon checking his documents in the databases, it was discovered that he was wanted by the French authorities for voluntary manslaughter and serious assault.
Following police procedures, the detainee has been brought before the Central Investigating Court of the National Court, the body responsible for processing his subsequent extradition.
