The College of Economists of Alicante plays a crucial role in representing and defending the profession, adapting to the challenges of digital transformation and connecting with the Alicante society. Its dean, Francisco Menargues, provides insight into the value of being a member, adapting to new times, and the importance of initiatives like the Economists Awards, which will be held on March 26 at the Principal Theatre of Alicante.
-What is the main function of a professional college like the College of Economists of Alicante?
Professional colleges, like ours, have the fundamental mission of representing, organising, and defending the profession, as well as serving society by protecting consumers and users of their members' services. In our case, we ensure that our members, the economists, uphold high ethical and professional standards. Additionally, we offer continuous training, advice, and tools for our members to adapt to new market demands. We are a support point for both professionals and society in general.
-In an increasingly digital world, how is the College of Economists adapting to this new reality?
Undoubtedly, digital transformation is both a challenge and an opportunity. We have digitised many of our internal processes to be more agile and efficient. Moreover, our training offer has evolved: we organise webinars, online courses, and hybrid sessions to facilitate access to knowledge from anywhere. We want our members to be prepared to operate in a digital environment, whether in business management, data analysis, or the use of advanced technological tools.
-What value does being a member bring to a professional today?
Being a member means belonging to a community of professionals with access to exclusive resources, continuous training, and support in the practice of the profession. Additionally, we offer legal and labour advice, civil liability insurance, and the opportunity to participate in events and conferences that enrich both professionally and personally. We are also a bridge between economists and institutions, which helps to give visibility to their work and connect them with new professional opportunities.
-How does the College of Economists of Alicante project itself towards the business and social sphere?
Our connection with society is realised through training activities, collaborations with institutions, and, of course, initiatives like the Economists Awards. These awards recognise the work of individuals, companies, and entities that contribute to the economic growth and well-being of the province of Alicante. Additionally, we promote studies and analyses that we offer to society to contribute to public debate with a professional and rigorous perspective.
-The Economists Awards are a clear example of this connection. What can you tell us about this year's edition?
This year, we will celebrate the Economists Awards on March 26 at the Principal Theatre of Alicante. It will be a fantastic opportunity to recognise the work of those who diligently work in favour of our economy. These awards not only highlight professional excellence but also strengthen our ties with the business and social fabric. Moreover, it is an event that allows our members and society, in general, to get to know inspiring initiatives that contribute to the development not only of the province but of the whole of Spain.
-Finally, what message would you like to convey to graduates who are not yet part of the College?
I would encourage them to approach the College, to discover everything we can offer them. In such a changing environment, being well-accompanied and having access to training and support tools is key. Being part of the College of Economists of Alicante is a step forward in their career, enhancing their network of contacts and having access to valuable resources, while also enhancing their profession and therefore themselves.
And most importantly, once registered, graduates in any economic degree become Economists.
