Public and civil works 'save lives'. This was the emphatic statement made on Monday by FOPA president, Javier Gisbert, who lamented the lack of investment in the province of Alicante. According to the businessman, administrations must 'invest in infrastructures to minimize the impact of future tragedies'.
The storm that hit the province of Valencia on October 29th was a focal point at the 17th FOPA awards gala in Alicante. With initial words of tribute to the victims and those affected, the president of this entity recalled the efforts of the province's companies during the disaster.
'We were the first to be on the front line, we committed all our resources to help from the very first moment,' both in cleaning streets and in rebuilding infrastructures during the 'most critical' moments. In this regard, in addition to calling for greater investment, he also explained that the current goal is to work to 'rebuild what was lost and ensure a safer future'.
Gisbert also used his speech to recall the first edition of the FOPA awards, held in 1999. The winning project that year was the set of emergency flood prevention measures 'led' by the then Director General of Infrastructures and later Councillor, José Ramón García Antón.
In front of the administrations present - Generalitat, with President Carlos Mazón; Diputación, with its president Toni Pérez; and City Hall, with Mayor Luis Barcala - the president of FOPA called for 'paying tribute (to García Antón) as he deserves, out of respect and for what he did for Alicante and the entire Community'.
