The Alicante City Council is considering opening a disciplinary and sanctioning file against the group of firefighters who "aggressively confronted local police and attempted to violently storm the Plenary Hall" during the regular session for March, according to municipal sources. The local government spokesperson, Cristina Cutanda, emphasised this Friday that the Fire Prevention and Extinction Service (Speis) staff has increased by 47 positions since 2012, while salaries have risen by 14% in the last year and 15% in 2023. The trial for the death of Aitor, the 8-year-old boy who died of peritonitis in October 2020 after five visits to the Emergency Room, concluded this Friday. The judge of Penal Court 2 will have to decide whether the two doctors accused of the boy's death committed malpractice or if their actions do not warrant a criminal penalty. The works to convert Almadraba Beach into Alicante's new seaside green area are progressing well. This was announced by the City Council following a visit to the area. Alicante is just over 100 metres away from connecting the Adif station with the Tram. The works to excavate the remaining 72 metres of tunnel and to construct the future Central Tram Station, which will connect both transports in a few metres, will begin in a few days. Ryanair is the main airline at Alicante-Elche airport. The Irish company transported over seven million passengers in 2024.
