The 'hippies' of Alicante are finalizing their relocation to the new site in the Lonja area. The expansion works of the current Alicante station, already underway, are progressing rapidly after the Council of Ministers authorized the contracting of additional works for €12.5 million (excluding VAT) to "enhance high-speed services at Alicante station and consolidate the province as a key point in the Mediterranean Corridor". The Alicante-Madrid AVE will once again stop at the central Atocha station, after months of being diverted to Chamartín due to construction work in the capital. The National Commission on Markets and Competition (CNMC) has allowed Renfe to maintain four services to Alicante from the central terminal.
