The airport operator Aena has initiated the first steps for the future expansion of Alicante-Elche airport this Friday. This is a much-needed action for an airport that has once again broken passenger records for the second consecutive year. A mass of icy air is crossing the peninsula and will cause temperatures to plummet in the province of Alicante this Sunday. The Emergency Coordination Centre of the Valencian Generalitat warns of minimum temperatures of zero degrees on the Alicante coast and below zero inland. A hunting accident occurred in the Sierra de Bernia, in Altea, where the victim had to be transferred to a hospital and remains injured, although his life is not in danger. The incident happened around noon this Saturday when a man aged between 55 and 57 accidentally shot himself in the knee after falling down a slope about three metres high, according to the Provincial Fire Consortium. National Police officers have arrested two alleged perpetrators of an attempted robbery with intimidation at a supermarket in Alicante using a simulated firearm. They were located a few metres from the scene by a plainclothes police patrol with the simulated weapon still in their possession. Read the full story.
