After a 2024 in which the airport broke the historical passenger record two months before the end of the year, 2025 begins with good news for the Alicante terminal. The airport operator, Aena, has launched the expansion process of Alicante-Elche airport, one of the most talked-about demands of the last year and a half, which is currently the alternative to the much-requested second runway in the province of Alicante. The recommendation to use masks returns in all health centres in Alicante and the rest of the Community, following the spike in respiratory infections experienced after the Christmas holidays. Health has sent an instruction to health departments establishing the recommendation of the measure to reduce the infection rate of 905 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, recorded in the first epidemiological week of the year. Strike in Alicante's Tram from January 27 and throughout February. The stoppages will affect all Tram d'Alacant lines, especially during peak hours, for commuting to and from work. The four unions present in the TRAM d'Alacant works council (UGT, CCOO, SEMAF, and SF) have called these partial stoppages for the management of Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat (FGV) to approve the improvements agreed by both parties in an agreement last November. The province of Alicante will experience a sudden change in weather between this week and the next. Temperatures will rise this weekend, with almost spring-like values, according to the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet). However, the harshest winter will arrive from this Sunday with the entry of a cold air mass from the interior of the European continent, which will plummet the thermometers for several days, as well as bring rain and snow to the Mediterranean coast. Three members of the then Board of Directors of Hércules CF will sit in the dock of the accused at the Provincial Court of Alicante on January 14 and 15 for a case whose origins date back to 2017, when the Treasury seized the club's accounts. They will be tried for two alleged crimes of asset stripping in the so-called 'Abde case'. Read the full story.
