It's mushroom season. Many lovers of this delicacy head to the mountains, and we can't think of a better way to do it, and even stay peacefully, than in a camper. This way, you can also enjoy the most beautiful autumn landscapes.
The first, the Barranca Valley (Madrid), located at the foot of Bola del Mundo, in the Sierra de Guadarrama, this beautiful valley is perfect for picking amanitas, níscalos, boletus or chanterelles. Immersed in a lush Scots pine forest, it becomes a unique destination for mushroom picking while enjoying a beautiful hiking route along the banks of the Samburiel River, a tributary of the Manzanares.
Also Navaleno (Soria), a small town is a paradise for mushroom lovers, as it hides one of the most important mycological reserves in Spain. In the black pine forests of Navaleno, you can find more than 150 different species of fungi and mushrooms from boletus, níscalos, card mushrooms, blue feet to perrechicos, nansarones, parasols or Caesar's amanitas. However, in this area it is necessary to request a permit to collect them.
Thirdly, Yescapa adds to our list the Gorbeia Natural Park (Álava/Vizcaya). Located between the provinces of Álava and Vizcaya, in this valley you will find beech and oak forests, rugged mountains and open meadows to enjoy nature and all it has to offer. In this park there are abundant oak groves, beeches, alders, ash trees and willows where you can find boletus, pinícola or aereus. In addition, during the walk you can see ancient pasture houses, old ironworks and solitary farmhouses that speak of ancestral times and the customs of those places.
Not forgetting the Jerte Valley (Cáceres). This natural region of great beauty bordering the regions of La Vera and Ambroz is recognized (and known) for its cherry blossoms in spring but has much more to tell. Its lush nature offers visitors splendid walnut forests and charming moss-covered trails with autumn as one of the most beautiful seasons to enjoy the landscape and mild climate of the Extremaduran forests. A perfect ecosystem for níscalos, matacandiles, boletus, Caesar's amanitas and many other mushrooms to grow.
Or lastly, the Hecho Valley (Huesca). In this incredible valley located in the natural environment of the Pyrenees, autumn puts on its best finery to welcome visitors in a setting full of color and light. The most common autumn mushrooms in this area are rebichuelos and pine mushrooms that make their way through pine and beech forests where the combination of sun and moisture makes them a paradise for mushroom lovers.
