In 2025, Alicante residents will witness the fireworks competition of the Hogueras de Alicante from the elevated walkway of the Port, relocated only for this year due to the construction by the Government to expand the Postiguet breakwater. This has been confirmed by the Festival Councillor and government spokesperson, Cristina Cutanda. Therefore, they will return to Cocó Beach in 2026.

Although the new breakwater is already completed and even accessible, uncertainty about the completion of the works by the Coastal Authority forced the City Council to seek an alternative for the fireworks scheduled from June 25 to 29.

After evaluating various points along the Alicante coast, municipal technicians from Festivals, Firefighters, and Security agreed on a location that does not detract from these pyrotechnic displays and, at the same time, "allows them to be seen equally from Postiguet Beach and from the boats" anchored in Alicante Bay at night to watch them.

Thus, instead of Cocó Beach, the fireworks will be launched from the elevated walkway of the Port of Alicante. However, this location has a drawback because it will not allow fireworks to be launched over the water due to the distance to the sea.

The government spokesperson criticized the Provincial Coastal Service in Alicante for not communicating their intentions to carry out these works during the concession period for the area to hold the Hogueras fireworks. This inconvenience forced the City Council to act quickly, although the location has received all necessary approvals from the technicians. But they will return in 2026, as confirmed.

Cutanda also recalled that the City Council has authorization for this purpose for four years, but at the time of its tender, no information was provided about the works on the breakwater.

Postiguet to Gain 200 Meters of Beach with New Breakwater

Postiguet Beach will gain 200 meters of sand with the new breakwater works. The General Directorate of the Coast and Sea of the Spanish Government is working on a new containment structure to replace the current breakwater installed in 1993. The works began in February with a duration of six months, expected to be completed by July. The new breakwater will change shape, forming an 'L' into the sea, which will increase the sandy area of Postiguet Beach and ensure its long-term stability. The project also includes isolating the beach from the discharge of rainwater and wastewater from the Cocó drain, aiming to ensure water quality for bathing.

Thus, the City Council and the Festival area consider the new location appropriate to definitively settle the festival calendar of the Hogueras de Alicante and does not deviate from the initial intentions of not moving away from the Alicante coastline.

Fireworks Calendar for the Hogueras

Thus, the Hogueras competition and San Pedro will continue with the fireworks calendar without new changes on the port's elevated walkway this 2025.

The last event took place last February when the pyrotechnics Ferrández from Redován declined the shoot due to scheduling conflicts. The City Council convened the jury to select another company to fill the gap.

Thus, they decided to assign this shoot to the pyrotechnics Hermanos Ferrández from Beniel as a replacement for those from Redován, closing a calendar that creates new headaches due to the works at Cocó.
