A 27-year-old man was rescued on the afternoon of Monday, August 26th, at Racó del Corb cove in Altea. The Provincial Fire Consortium of Alicante, which was alerted around 6 PM, carried out this emergency service to assist the affected individual.

The young man had an ankle injury, possibly a fracture, according to medical sources. The Alicante Fire Consortium deployed the Alpha 1 rescue helicopter and the mountain rescue group GER, in addition to two light vehicle units from the Benidorm station.

Once the injured person was located, they descended to provide initial medical attention, stabilizing him with a splint and extracting him with a crane to the helicopter. The man was evacuated to the San Vicente station, where an SVB vehicle awaited him around 8 PM.

Red Cross Recommendations

In coastal areas, experts in rescue emphasize the importance of individual and collective responsibility to maintain a safe and pleasant environment. They recommend following lifeguard instructions, adhering to safety regulations, and protecting the environment.

Among recommendations to avoid fractures or injuries is checking the water depth before diving in, as one might hit submerged rocks or branches. It is also advisable to wear specialized footwear, especially in rivers or reservoirs, to prevent foot injuries.

Another general recommendation, especially if swimming in a remote area, is to check mobile phone coverage so that emergency services can be contacted in case of any urgency.
