Dense smoke alerted residents on Sunday evening that something was amiss in Albatera. Indeed, a fire, whose cause remains unknown, swiftly consumed a gym located at the corner of Juan Carlos I and Juan de Dios Pardo streets in this town of Vega Baja.
The flames, which spread rapidly, devoured the entire interior of the premises and even caused part of one of the establishment's walls to collapse. Fortunately, there were no personal injuries to regret, as it was Sunday and late in the evening, meaning no one was inside.
After the fire alert, firefighters from the Alicante Provincial Consortium, belonging to the Crevillente and Elche stations, were dispatched to this municipality of Vega Baja to begin extinguishing the flames that threatened to spread to other buildings located right next to the gym.
According to the fire extinguishing teams, the premises were completely affected, and additionally, "a wall of the premises partially collapsed." This morning, after nearly four hours of work to prevent the fire from escalating, firefighters returned to the scene to declare the fire extinguished.
