This Wednesday marks the final day of the ordinary phase of the MIR position allocation.
From tomorrow, a second phase of position allocation will begin for candidates who, for any reason (such as not having chosen a position or having resigned), did not obtain a position in the ordinary phase but are still interested in securing one.
The last day of allocations began in Alicante with 282 positions assigned out of the 287 offered. This means only five remain, all in the Family Medicine specialty.
As reported, positions in this specialty are traditionally the last to be requested by future residents, highlighting their limited appeal to the group.
In fact, the last 35 positions assigned in the current call in the province have been in Family Medicine, as it was the only specialty with vacancies.
It is also noteworthy that, except for four positions at the Vinalopó University Hospital in Elche, these last pending positions corresponded to regional hospital centres, such as those in Dénia, Torrevieja, Orihuela, and Elda, all considered difficult to cover in the province of Alicante.
Looking ahead to the second round of vacancy allocation, the Ministry of Health has announced changes to the allocation system that will begin to be implemented next year. This second round will be exclusively electronic, a measure aimed at "optimising the availability of specialised healthcare professionals and responding to the need to cover certain specialties," according to the Ministry.
Last year, no vacancies were recorded in the MIR process, and the mere five remaining to be assigned this year suggest that the same will happen in this call.
