A fierce fire has destroyed two palm groves in the town of Jacarilla. The vegetation was so dense that the Alicante Provincial Fire Consortium (CPB) had to deploy aerial resources to extinguish the blaze and prevent further damage.
According to the consortium, the incident occurred around 2:40 PM on Monday, when emergency services received a call about a fire in a palm area behind the industrial estate of Jacarilla. Several units were dispatched to the scene to try to extinguish the flames.
The fire affected two palm groves. Due to the characteristics of the vegetation and the fire, an automatic dispatch of an aerial resource was activated to prevent a spread that "could have caused greater damage." The units managed to extinguish the fire by around 7 PM.
The intervention involved a command unit, two heavy urban pumps, a heavy tanker, and an aerial resource. Among the personnel involved were a sergeant, two corporals, seven firefighters from the Almoradí and Orihuela stations, and two units of forest firefighters.
