Fermín López will be sidelined for three weeks after sustaining an injury with the Spanish Under-21 team. Barça confirmed on Wednesday morning that the Andalusian midfielder has a muscle injury in the rectus femoris of his left thigh, which will prevent him from returning to the pitch until the end of September, thus depriving Hansi Flick of a valuable player.

The player, born in the town of El Campillo in Huelva, was dropped from coach Santi Denia's squad on Monday for the two matches against Scotland and Hungary that La Rojita will face in the coming days as part of the qualifying phase for the 2025 European Championship. The medical services of the Spanish Football Federation (FEF) detected that the Barça player had a muscle injury, so it was decided that he would return to his club's discipline and Denia proceeded to replace him on the list with Pablo Torre.

Fermín, who recently won Olympic gold in Paris and was also named MVP of the tournament, and who was part of Luis de la Fuente's squad that won the Euro Cup in Germany, will now have to start his recovery process with the aim of being available for Hansi Flick as soon as possible. If recovery timelines are met, he will miss at least the league matches against Girona (September 15) and Villarreal (September 22), as well as Barça's Champions League debut on September 19 at Monaco's home ground.

The absence of the Andalusian adds another blow to Barça's midfield, joining Gavi, Frenkie de Jong, Christensen, and Marc Bernal on the injury list. Thus, Hansi Flick is left with only four healthy midfielders: Casadó, Pedri, Olmo, and Pablo Torre.
