New Features Announced for Alicante's Santa Faz 2025

The Santa Faz of Alicante will introduce significant new features for the 2025 pilgrimage. The City Council has awarded a new four-year contract for organising and hosting the pilgrimage, focusing on the upcoming event on 1 May.

Thus, Alicante's Santa Faz pilgrimage will feature the distribution of various anise rolls, with ten percent gluten-free and another ten percent sugar-free, all baked in wood-fired ovens. The contracted company will distribute over 1,200 kilograms during the pilgrimage at the municipal stall.

This distribution point will be located at the intersection of Avenida de Dénia and Calle Cigüeña, along the pilgrimage route. It will feature a large 38-metre table and twelve staff members distributing rolls and over 900 litres of mistela wine.

These anise rolls and mistela wine will be free for pilgrims, available at the stall on 1 May from 7 to 11:30 am. Signs will be placed around the pilgrimage area to announce the distribution.

The ingredients for the rolls include wheat or gluten-free flour, oil, sugar or natural sweetener, dry anise, and white wine. The mistela wine, made from Muscat grapes, will only be served to individuals over 18 years old.

Among the contract improvements is the sound system for the municipal stall, which will feature entertainment music from 8 am to 12 pm between 2026 and 2028. Additionally, the contracted company will manage the sound system for the Holy Mass during the same period.

Other enhancements for the Santa Faz pilgrimage in 2025, continuing until 2028, include an increase in choir vocalists performing at the Mass outside the Caserío. On 1 May, over 66 choristers, 16 more than the minimum required, will gather at Plaza Luis Foglietti.

The contract for organising and hosting the Santa Faz of Alicante also includes participation from the nanos i gegants, representing Nicolauet and Remediets, a traditional music group, and collective transport services for choir members and pilgrimage organisers.
