Express plenary session of the Alicante Provincial Council to definitively approve the largest budgets in the history of the provincial administration, amounting to 334.6 million euros, an increase of 13.3% over the previous year. The plenary ratified the accounts following a claim by Compromís that was not accepted, as the nationalist spokesperson was not accredited to challenge the accounts according to a report, necessitating their return. As expected, the PP's absolute majority approved the accounts, despite unanimous opposition from other parties: PSPV, Vox, and Compromís.
Compromís spokesperson Ximo Perles had claimed "management issues involving the budget," relating to Proaguas Costablanca and nominative grants directed to the Valencian Community's Hotel and Tourism Business Association (Hosbec).
From the provincial government team, the second vice president and deputy for Finance and General Administration, Marina Sáez, reproached Perles that "the way in which the budget claim was presented does not comply with the Local Government Finance Act." Thus, the plenary session addressed the inadmissibility of said claim due to a "lack of legitimacy."
Sáez added that there are reports from Proaguas and the Costa Blanca Board regarding grants to Hosbec, where "the explanation and history" of the issues raised by the Compromís spokesperson are provided. Nonetheless, she stated that "everything must be thoroughly analyzed and verified to provide an effective solution."
In this vein, the second vice president emphasized that Perles' claim is dismissed and the budget is definitively approved because "the day-to-day operations" of the provincial institution's autonomous bodies, as well as the consortia, the Provincial Council itself, and the Alicante municipalities, depend on it.
PSPV spokesperson Vicente Arques indicated that his group maintains its opposition to the budgets because amendments were not accepted and "with a very low execution capacity." Thus, he supported Compromís' proposal to prevent the accounts from "seeing the light."
Similarly, Vox spokesperson Gema Alemán reaffirmed her opposition to the 2025 budgets: "They do not meet the needs required by our province, and the amendments we prepared, looking positively at what different municipalities conveyed to us, were not considered."
