A key consideration when planning a career is identifying which sectors will generate the most job opportunities in the near future. While technology-based jobs are among those with the best future prospects, another sector is not far behind, driven by demographic reasons.
The sector in question is social and healthcare services related to the care of the elderly and dependents, a consequence of the ageing population characteristic of developed societies. A study involving the University of Alicante, commissioned by Labora and conducted alongside the University Jaume I and the University of Valencia, reveals that this sector will become a significant source of employment in the near future.
Additionally, in coastal regions, according to the work conducted by the universities, activities related to new technologies, information and communication, as well as those linked to transport, logistics, and storage, are emerging.
The analysis of regional employment sources was based on interviews with key social agents in employment in the Valencian Community: Employment Pacts; directors of LABORA Spaces; regional prospectors from the LABORA Training Observatory; representatives of the Valencian Community Business Confederation (CEV); and regional and interregional delegates from the CCOO-PV and UGT-PV unions.
Regarding the main mature sectors, which are fundamental in job creation and broadly identified across the territory, the Valencian hospitality and tourism industry, commerce, manufacturing industry specialized in certain regions, logistics and transport activities, and agriculture and related activities, which hold more weight in the interior regions of Valencia and Castellón, are noteworthy.
The universities have also analyzed unemployment figures in the Valencian Community. In this regard, it is notable that unemployment prevails among women (61%) and mainly among those over 45 years old (59%). The level of education is, according to the study, crucial in finding employment. Thus, 50% of unemployed individuals have no education, and only 7% have university degrees.
Regarding hiring, it is notable that 74% of contracts during the analyzed period were in the service sector, and 26% were for foreign citizens, a figure that rises to 45% in Baix Segura. Concerning mobility, the study reveals that 48% of workers commute to another region, and 63% to another municipality.
