Is it possible for Spain to experience another major blackout like the one on April 28th? Experts focus on this issue in the new episode of 'Zoom', dedicated to the largest power disconnection in our country's history.
This À Punt programme will air next Monday, May 19th at 10:45 PM, featuring testimonies from citizens and experts to analyse what happened just weeks ago with the major power outage.
The programme team, led by Jose Sáez, seeks answers to the causes of the blackout under the question "What went wrong?". They will also ignite the debate on nuclear energy, consulting experts on whether the blackout could have been avoided with these plants at full capacity and if the supply was restored thanks to renewables.
Furthermore, 'Zoom' will find out where the blackout caught Valencians, whether in a lift, on a train, or working from home. "It's one of those moments we will always remember where we were, what we were doing, and how we spent one of the strangest days in recent history."
The À Punt programme will also focus on the survival kit recommended by Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, and whether society is prepared to face any setback.
Spain is one of the leading countries in Europe in the installation and utilisation of renewable energies. According to Red Eléctrica Española (REE), in 2024, renewables already generated 56% of Spain's electricity mix. Wind energy was the main source, followed by solar.
Therefore, 'Zoom' investigates whether the energy future is 100% renewable or if the solution lies in an energy mix. The Monday investigative space will also analyse whether the management of renewables requires improvements to be efficient.
