La Cofradía del Cristo del Divino Amor y Virgen de la Soledad is finalising the details to crown 'La Marinera'. The ceremony will take place this Saturday, 23rd November, at 6 PM at the Monastery of Santa Faz in Alicante.

The Caserío will witness a historic event, hosting its first coronation. This decision was made by the brotherhood, as they venerate the Virgin in this temple and remain under the care of the Sisters of the Blood, a duty they have undertaken for four centuries. "It is a sign of respect and affection," explains their president Julio Forner.

Saya and crown of 'La Marinera'. FEDE CANO

The image of 'La Marinera', the oldest of Alicante's Holy Week, will feature new elements as part of its coronation. The Virgin will wear a saya designed and crafted by Pepe Espadero, commissioned by Lola Peña. Additionally, it will include the original emblem by Cristina Yáñez and José Luis Pelegrín.

The new saya and crown that 'La Marinera' will wear at her coronation will be blessed on 23rd November during the ceremony. It will be then that the march 'Soledad Marinera Coronada' composed by Mutxamel's Héctor Plácido Giner Giménez will resonate.

This event concludes the cycle leading up to the coronation of the Virgin of Solitude 'La Marinera', which has included talks offered by brotherhood members and also by the Bishop of Orihuela-Alicante, José Ignacio Munilla.

Solidarity Tasks of the Augustinian Nuns

The Brotherhood of the Christ of Divine Love and Virgin of Solitude continues its charitable and volunteer work alongside the community of the Augustinian nuns. Among these efforts is a soup kitchen that feeds 60 people per week.

This initiative is supported by the nuns "by offering this historic space -the Monastery of the Sisters of the Blood- for this altruistic task," explains their president Julio Forner. Volunteering is also present in the maintenance of the building, a commitment they have made with the community.
