An intense fire in the underground parking of an apartment block in Orihuela Costa forced the evacuation of the entire building. The significant amount of smoke and the spread of the fire among parked vehicles necessitated the evacuation of residents from this five-story block located at number 15, Calle del Mar.
The incident occurred around 00:21 hours from Tuesday to Wednesday. Emergency services received notification of the fire in the underground parking of a residential apartment in Orihuela Costa. Due to the intensity of the fire and the conditions of its spread, the entire available crew from the Torrevieja station had to be deployed, according to the Alicante Provincial Fire Consortium (CPB).
The large amount of smoke and fire forced the evacuation of the entire building. After several hours of work, firefighters from the Torrevieja station, along with personnel from Almoradí, managed to control the fire, which was declared extinguished after four in the morning.
According to the CPB, there were no injuries reported. The Emergency Information and Coordination Centre (Cicu) dispatched a Basic Life Support ambulance for support, although it ultimately did not intervene. Unfortunately, the vehicles parked there suffered worse fate. The fire completely destroyed four cars and left ten others damaged.
During the intervention, the consortium employed a command unit, a heavy tanker, two heavy urban pumps, and a ladder truck. Additionally, a sergeant, two corporals, and twelve firefighters from the Torrevieja and Almoradí stations participated in the efforts.
