The Alicante Campus of the European University of Valencia held the graduation ceremony for the first cohort of master's degrees in Nursing Emergencies, Critical Care, and General Health Psychology on Friday, June 13th. The event, presided over by Rector Rosa Sanchidrián Pardo, brought together students, families, faculty, and authorities, including Francisco José Ponce Lorenzo, the territorial director of Health for the province of Alicante.
During her speech, the rector highlighted the pioneering nature of this cohort and the university's commitment to training highly qualified professionals in the health sector. "The world needs you," she asserted, emphasizing the importance of vocation, research, and continuous training in an increasingly demanding healthcare context.
The speeches by the academic sponsors and directors of both master's programs, Dr. Silvia Melero and Dr. Manuel Lillo, acknowledged the effort, resilience, and humanity demonstrated by the students throughout their studies. They both noted that this first cohort has been pivotal in the development of the Alicante campus and that their time at the university has left an indelible mark.
Student representatives from both programs also spoke. Carla Andrea Guggisberg, a graduate of the Master's in Nursing Emergencies, Critical Care, highlighted the sacrifice and dedication required during this period: "This master's was a challenge in many ways. For some, it meant leaving their city, community, country, or even continent."
Meanwhile, Ruth Sánchez, from the Master's in General Health Psychology, emphasized the value of starting from scratch and building community even in virtual environments: "Today we not only graduate, but we also transform. We are not the same people who started this journey. We take with us knowledge, of course, but also something equally valuable, such as the bonds created, life lessons, and we leave with the excitement of putting everything we have learned into practice."
The ceremony concluded with a message of the future: an invitation to continue growing professionally through research, master's, or doctoral studies, and to maintain the connection with a university, the European University, which will continue to be "their home."
