PSG, FC Barcelona, Atlético de Madrid, Manchester City, Chelsea, and Inter Milan are among Europe's top football academies set to arrive in Crevillent for the fourth edition of the 'Asisa Crevillent Cup' on April 11 and 12. The tournament is organised by former international Juanfran Torres for a charitable cause: childhood cancer.
The competition will also feature a friendly match between the Spanish Creators' Team and the English Team. The event will gain global exposure through social media and the DAZN app, which will broadcast the tournament for free. Those interested in attending can purchase tickets via the OWQLO app.
The driving force behind this youth football championship, Crevillent native Juanfran Torres, stated, "This event is a wonderful experience for the young ones." The former Atlético de Madrid player and Spanish international, now the founder of the promoting company, highlighted, "We wish we could have experienced as children what these kids from other major football academies are experiencing now in Crevillent."
Torres noted "the improvement this sporting event has seen each year, and it is a success achieved annually. We are very grateful for the support from the Town Hall and our collaborators because, without them, an event of this magnitude would not be possible." The former footballer argued that they are "very happy" as they are becoming "a reference tournament in Spanish football, almost on par with La Liga Promises. It is something to be proud of."
Additionally, he highlighted the strong charitable nature of this sporting event. "It is such a special event that it also needs a charitable foundation, giving and helping those in need," he stated. Therefore, all proceeds from ticket sales will go to 'El sueño de Vicky', a foundation dedicated to childhood cancer research. Its president, Laura García, expressed gratitude for the continued collaboration to promote solidarity and support this great cause.
This foundation works to raise awareness of the real issues of childhood cancer and the importance of research in finding specific treatments for children. "My foundation was born nine years ago due to my youngest daughter's illness. She was diagnosed with childhood cancer at two and passed away at five, which is very hard and painful," commented the foundation's president, who affirmed, "We are growing as a foundation and investing in care at the Clínica de Navarra and the Hospital Niño Jesús in Madrid."
Furthermore, García recounted that "losing a child is very hard, but it is also very rewarding to support other families in overcoming this disease. Juanfran believed in my foundation four years ago to collaborate in such events. I already feel like another Crevillent native because you welcome us so well."
Meanwhile, the Mayor of Crevillent, Lourdes Aznar, explained that "it is a sporting event, but it is also educational as it is a youth football championship." She also pointed out that "we are presenting a sporting event that has become a milestone for Crevillent's sports, being the event with the greatest media impact in our locality as elite football academies will come, turning our municipality into the epicentre of youth football in Spain."
Aznar added that "this tournament is also analysed from a tourism perspective because it will have a significant economic impact with many visitors attending." Lourdes Aznar anticipated that "in the coming weeks, the organisation will announce attractions within the framework of this tournament, and there will not only be sports but also artistic performances."
Meanwhile, the Councillor for Sports, David Amorós Candela, emphasised that "this quality event is possible thanks to Juanfran and his team, who are the architects of us being able to enjoy this tournament," and commented that "this event is an example of sport understood from the values of education because it is youth football, from tourism because it attracts thousands of visitors, and from solidarity because we raise funds for a good cause."
