The maneuver of an alleged thief who intended to steal a motorcycle from a seller he had contacted through a sales app went wrong. He ended up without the moped and without the marijuana plantation he was cultivating on a rural property where he lived, in Jesús Pobre, Dénia.
The bizarre story occurred last Friday, September 20th, when a young man filed a complaint at police headquarters claiming to have been a victim of robbery. According to the narrated facts, the aggrieved party had reached an agreement with a potential customer through a sales app to sell him his moped. After meeting up, he allowed the prospective buyer to test it before finalizing the sale, but the latter left and did not respond to messages from the vehicle's owner.
Subsequently, the moped owner received threats from the alleged thief to keep quiet about what had happened. The agents of the Local Police of Dénia requested a description of the individual and the characteristics of the motorcycle to start their search, informing other patrols. Additionally, they asked if he knew where the alleged thief lived; he indicated that the latter had mentioned residing in Gandía.
With the collected data, municipal officials requested that he log into the app from which he had contacted for the sale and check the location of the alleged buyer's user account, evidencing that it was located near Jesús Pobre.
Therefore, officers contacted the Rural Unit to head towards the area where the alleged thief might reside. A few minutes later, the Rural Unit reported observing a moped matching the description on Camí Real de Jesús Pobre and that after signaling it to stop, it fled.
The police found the motorcycle in the area indicated by the sales app's location. There, they encountered a man walking who indicated that a young man of medium build had left the moped and hurriedly headed up a path towards a nearby shed.
The agents requested support from other patrols, with patrol S-1 arriving at the scene. While the Rural Unit guarded the moped, S-1 approached the shed towards which the fleeing young man had headed. Upon arriving at the property and receiving no response to their calls, they conducted an exterior search of the plot.
At the back of the property, they observed dozens of plants that appeared to be marijuana from beyond the fence. The Local Police reported this to the Operational Service Center of the Alicante Civil Guard, which dispatched a Pedreguer patrol to the scene.
The patrol, along with Local Police agents from Dénia, interviewed someone who identified himself as the property owner and also with the young man suspected of stealing the moped who resided on that same plot. Finally, he admitted to stealing the motorcycle and handed over its helmet and keys to officers.
The moped was removed by municipal tow truck and returned to its rightful owner at Dénia Local Police headquarters. The Civil Guard took charge of handling matters related to the marijuana plantation.
