Illegal possession of weapons and serious assault. These are the two charges against an individual arrested by the National Police in Dénia, who was subject to an extradition order issued by the Belgian authorities.
The offences for which he was wanted were committed between 2016 and 2017 in the Belgian city of Tervuren. The fugitive had escaped from a psychiatric prison in Belgium where he had been indefinitely detained since April 2018 for serious assault and possession and use of a prohibited weapon.
It appears the arrested man had attacked two people with a knife in a recreational room, claiming they were making too much noise, and had also struck his mother twice while intoxicated.
The arrested man had attacked two people with a knife in a recreational room, claiming they were making too much noise, and had also struck his mother twice while intoxicated.
The arrest occurred after officers received a call to the CIMACC 091 room, informing them that a man with a detention and extradition order was admitted to the hospital in Dénia.
Once the officers checked his identity in the National Police databases, they confirmed that he was subject to a European Arrest Warrant for Extradition for serious assault and illegal possession of weapons, issued by the Belgian authorities, leading to his arrest once he was discharged by medical staff.
After the police proceedings, the detainee was brought before the Central Court of Instruction number one of the National Court, the body responsible for processing his subsequent extradition.
