Entrepreneurial thinking seems to be taking root among young people in Alicante. This is at least reflected in a study conducted among high school students in our province, where 30% of respondents stated they plan to start their own business. The majority (55%) expressed a preference for working in the private sector, while only 11% intend to pursue a career as a civil servant.
The study from which these figures are drawn was conducted at the end of the University Orientation Fair UNITOUR 2024-2025, which in its 18th edition toured 26 Spanish cities, as well as several in Italy and Latin America. The fair took place between October 2023 and February 2024.
Regarding the reason for choosing their degree, 48% of the Alicante respondents said they would choose their future degree based on vocation, while another 48% would focus on the career opportunities their degree offers.
Concerning the location where they will study, 37% will do so anywhere in Spain, while 33% prefer to stay in their province or community, and 28% will study abroad.
When asked where they would like to work, the figures vary slightly. 36% would prefer to develop their professional career anywhere in Spain, while 19% would stay in their own province or community. Meanwhile, 33% would seek opportunities abroad, and 12% are indifferent about where to work, willing to move wherever they find employment.
