Employment Surge in Alicante with the Creation of 5,244 Jobs in February

The province of Alicante concludes February with a surge in the labour market. After several consecutive months of declines in the number of Social Security affiliates, the second period of the year has marked the first growth of 2025.

According to Social Security data, February ended with the creation of 5,244 jobs in the province, reaching 741,116 contributors, compared to the 735,872 average in January, a month in which the end of the Christmas campaign took a toll on employment .

Although the figures for this February fall short of those achieved during the summer season, they surpass the number of contributors from the same month in 2024, when Social Security recorded 722,264 affiliates in the province of Alicante.

By sectors, there is no excessive growth in any, but almost all add contributors to their ranks. Among those growing the most from one month to the next are construction, which adds nearly 1,000 affiliates, hospitality, with the creation of 1,278 jobs, or education, with 1,000 more people employed.

The positive figures in the number of contributors are also reflected in unemployment. According to data from the State Public Employment Service (SEPE), unemployment in the province has decreased by 1,908 people, a drop of nearly 1.5% compared to January's figures and 5.28% (-7,037) compared to the same month last year.

The number of unemployed in Alicante stands at 126,204 people, of which 60%, more than 76,000, are women. By sectors, all branches record declines in the number of unemployed, with a significant impact in the services sector, with a reduction of -1,472 unemployed.

Regarding hiring, 32,392 contracts were signed in February, almost 340 fewer than in January, a decrease of 1.04%. Permanent contracts increased by 1,090, reaching 17,941, while temporary contracts recorded a 9% drop (-1,429 contracts).
