Two sisters from Alicante have created one of the most emotional moments of the year in LaLiga, and what better setting than the cathedral of Spanish football. The protagonists of this beautiful story travelled to Bilbao to step on San Mamés for the first time with a clear purpose: to pay tribute to their recently deceased father, an Alicante native who considered the Basque capital his second home.

The cameras of 'El día después' captured the adventure of the two sisters from Alicante, who were very emotional even before the match between Athletic and Girona began, held last Saturday, February 8th. The match was won by the lions with a resounding 3-0, with a stellar performance by Oier Sancet, who scored a hat-trick.

The honoree was named Juan Vicente Lillo Cartagena. An Alicante native who considered Bilbao, despite the distance from 'la terreta', his second home. The daughters shared on the programme that their father rests on the Artxanda mountain and that they visited The Cathedral to honour his memory.

"We are here for my father; an Alicante native, the most wonderful person in the world, who left us the greatest legacy one can leave: being fans of this club that transcends football," one of them explained while showing a photo of the remembered one to the camera.

Her sister explained that Juan Vicente lies in Bilbao: "My father is resting here, on the Artxanda mountain. It's the first time we've come to San Mamés, but it won't be the last because this is our second city."

Additionally, she revealed that the zurigorri team was part of some of their fondest family memories: "On Sundays, when we were little, it was Athletic on the radio. Sitting on the sofa and listening: 'If Athletic wins, my glass of cognac will not be missing'," they fondly recalled.

In the vicinity of San Mamés, one of the sisters admitted to the nerves she felt: "We are with our hearts... when the anthem starts playing, we have an attack." And indeed, moments before the match began, neither sister could hold back the tears and they burst into tears of emotion when "¡Athleeeetic!" was heard.
