Emergency Intervention Due to Sinkholes Detected in an Elche Neighbourhood

Urgent intervention in Elche to address the issues caused by sinkholes that have appeared on public roads in one of the city's most modest neighbourhoods, Porfirio Pascual. The Mayor of Elche, Pablo Ruz, has announced that a plan has been established in collaboration with Aigües d'Elx to resolve the issue, while also ruling out any risks to the buildings in the area.

Ruz, accompanied by the Councillor for Public Services, Claudio Guilabert, the District Councillor for Carrús Este, Samuel Ruiz, and the manager of the joint venture Aigües d'Elx, María José Toledo, visited Porfirio Pascual again this Monday, following a visit on Sunday. Specifically, they went to Clara Campoamor Street, where residents have reported issues with leaks and sinkholes.

From early morning, technicians from Aigües d'Elx have been conducting inspections of the entire street's sewer system to assess its current condition. Alongside municipal technicians, an inspection meeting took place to provide a definitive solution for the residents.

"Today we are here again after meeting with residents yesterday to establish a work plan, together with Aigües d'Elx, to provide a permanent and stable solution to the sinkhole problem that has existed for nearly 20 years on this street," the mayor highlighted.

In this regard, he confirmed that "the City Council will intervene with an effective and permanent investment in the area." It will be addressed urgently, using the City Council's contingency fund, to fill the sinkholes and repair the street, following an assessment report by municipal technicians.

Finally, the mayor once again reassured residents, informing them that "the structures of the buildings in the area are in good condition, with strong foundations and robust structures," as reported by architects and verified by him personally, according to municipal sources.
