El Limonar International School Villamartín (ELIS Villamartín), a leading British international school in Vega Baja, celebrated its twentieth anniversary this Friday with an emotional event at its facilities. Local authorities, members of the educational community, and civil society representatives attended the event, highlighting the presence of the mayor of San Miguel de Salinas, Juan de Dios Fresneda, who unveiled a commemorative plaque to mark the occasion.

Over the past two decades, ELIS Villamartín has established itself as a center of educational excellence, offering multilingual education that allows students to obtain both Spanish and international official qualifications. This has enabled its students to access prestigious universities both in Spain and abroad. Additionally, the school has a multinational community that brings together students from more than 35 countries, creating an international environment reflected not only in cultural diversity but also in its high level of languages and the excellent academic results its students achieve in external exams.

Among the highlights of the ceremony was the participation of its own students, who presented the event. Álvaro De Miguel, General Director of Cognita in Spain and Italy, the international family of schools to which ELIS Villamartín has belonged since 2008, also spoke. The school's founders, employees who have been with the school since its inception, along with students and directors of local nurseries, also joined the celebration.

Unveiling of plaque in gratitude to the community

The central act of this official event was the unveiling of a commemorative plaque thanking the entire community for their contribution to the school's success.

"ELIS Villamartín has left a very important legacy in the locality over the past 20 years, positively impacting the lives of many families. Every teacher has inspired their students to dream big and develop critical thinking, as well as motivating them to be ambassadors of the values the school promotes. San Miguel de Salinas is enriched by the diversity and multiculturalism promoted here, which is why I reaffirm my commitment to education in the municipality to continue building a bright future in our town," expressed Juan de Dios Fresneda, mayor of San Miguel de Salinas.

Vanessa Grimward, the school's executive director, expressed her pride in these 20 years of history: "We are grateful to the entire ELIS Villamartín community, including students, parents, and employees, who have made 20 years of educational excellence possible, as well as to the entire society of San Miguel Salinas in particular and Vega Baja in general." Jon Wayth, the school's director, assured that "we want to continue contributing to making this a region where the comprehensive education of students, with special attention to their well-being and the teaching of global citizenship values, remains a priority."

Guided tour and celebrations over the weekend

The event included a guided tour of the school's facilities, which were extensively renovated in 2018, making them some of the most advanced in the region, especially in areas dedicated to early childhood education.

ELIS Villamartín, recognized in important national and international educational rankings, currently has more than 80 professionals and has educated thousands of students over these 20 years. National and foreign students residing in different localities in the south of Alicante and the Region of Murcia make up the school's student body, which has been a pillar in the area's international education.

The celebrations will continue tomorrow, Saturday, when the school will open its doors to share this milestone with the local community. Hundreds of families will gather in a festive atmosphere with activities such as workshops, musical performances, giant paellas, and sports activities.
