Elda is experiencing a population increase. Since the municipality is celebrating the return to figures last seen in 2009. As of January 1, 2025, the municipal register confirms that the capital of Medio Vinalopó has once again surpassed the 55,000 resident mark.
Moreover, the register also solidifies Elda as the eighth most populous locality in the province. It joins the group of cities with over 55,000 inhabitants, including Alicante, Elche, Torrevieja, Benidorm, Orihuela, San Vicente del Raspeig, and Alcoi.
Thus, according to the data, Elda has 55,157 registered residents, a 2.48% increase from the previous year. This percentage, like the census records, is above the regional average.
In the past three years, the number of inhabitants in Elda has increased by 2,860 people (+5.46%), rising from 52,297 registered in 2022 to the current 55,157.
The Elda City Council also highlights the evolution of unemployment in the municipality, which since 2025 has been in continuous decline. In this regard, they explain that the number of unemployed has decreased from 7,583 in 2015 to 4,737 currently, representing a 37.5% drop over ten years.
The mayor of Elda, Rubén Alfaro, views these figures positively. "They consolidate our city once again on the path of economic growth and demographic expansion." He also notes that in addition to the registered residents, there is a significant floating population "which is very large due to work or study reasons," making the municipality "a hub of commercial, economic, educational, leisure, and even tourist attraction."
