The Elda City Council has denounced this morning the ongoing delays in the construction project of the new Santa Infancia Nursery School, included in the Edificant Plan, and the lack of response from the Regional Ministry of Education to the various letters and requests sent by the Elda Town Hall.
This was stated this morning by the Councillor for Education, María Gisbert, and the spokesperson for the socialist municipal group, Fernando Gómez, who also demanded that the Generalitat resume the most important project of the entire Edificant Plan in Elda.
The Education Councillor recalled that "the Santa Infancia Nursery School was closed 17 years ago, in 2008, because the building suffered from aluminosis. The demolition was carried out in March 2015 by the Regional Ministry of Education, with the PP in the Generalitat and Adela Pedrosa as mayor of Elda. Since the PSOE took over the Town Hall, one of the priorities has been to rebuild this educational centre and improve and modernise the rest, after the years of PP government left them in a poor state."

María Gisbert highlighted that "in Elda, all the educational centres where Edificant projects have been carried out experience a before and after, but the arrival of the PP to the Generalitat has meant a halt to such important investments as that of the Santa Infancia Nursery School."
The Councillor for Education recalled that "there is a standstill in the Edificant projects that were pending, with this nursery school being the most important. This project has been without a response from the Generalitat for more than a year, specifically since 7 December 2023."
María Gisbert indicated that "we regret this delay and have made it known to the Regional Ministry from the Municipal School Council and also in meetings we have held with the Directorate General of Educational Infrastructures. We have requested to meet with the minister on several occasions, but we have not received a response. Santa Infancia cannot wait any longer and needs this investment now."
Meanwhile, Fernando Gómez stated that "our defence of public education is unquestionable, although it is true that with Carlos Mazón at the helm of the Generalitat it will not be easy. In the specific case of the Santa Infancia Nursery School, in December 2023, the modification of the delegation of competences was requested and more than a year later we are still without a response, despite the claims."
The councillor recalled that "on 15 October 2024, the Councillor for Education requested a meeting with the Minister of Education to address the city's educational problems, without receiving a response. On 17 October 2024, the Municipal School Council requested the Regional Ministry of Education to activate the pending Edificant Plan files and carry out these actions."
In the case of the Santa Infancia Nursery School, Fernando Gómez continued, "the Municipal School Council requested a response to the request for price updates and the modification of the declaration of competences. There has been no response, but we will not stand idly by. The latest request was just yesterday, a letter was sent to the Directorate General of Educational Infrastructures from the Urban Planning Department requesting an increase in funding to continue with the actions and carry out the works of the Santa Infancia Nursery School as soon as possible."
