The Elda City Council has completed this week the improvement works around Adolfo Suárez Park—popularly known as La Concordia—a project that involved an investment of 538,000 euros from municipal funds and a five-month execution period.
The works included the renovation of the potable water network, the expansion of sidewalks to improve accessibility, and the paving of more than 4,500 square metres of roadway across fourteen streets in the Virgen de la Cabeza, Numancia, and Fraternidad neighbourhoods.
During a visit to the area, the Mayor of Elda, Rubén Alfaro, accompanied by the Councillor for Public Space and Investments, José Antonio Amat, and the municipal technical team, highlighted that this intervention "directly improves the quality of life for residents," especially in the higher buildings where water pressure was previously suboptimal.
According to the mayor, the old pipelines have been replaced with a more modern network, significantly enhancing the potable water supply. Additionally, a comprehensive renovation of the sidewalks has been carried out, making them wider and removing architectural barriers, in line with the council's goal of making Elda a more accessible city.
In total, 2,535 square metres of sidewalks and 4,585 square metres of pavement have been renewed, equivalent to a dozen basketball courts. This project continues other urban improvements made in recent years in the area, such as the one carried out on Navarra Street and its surroundings, which involved an investment of 322,000 euros.
"It should be remembered," continued the mayor, "that in the area around Navarra Street we already carried out a similar project (322,000 euros) to the one we present today, so in recent years we have allocated nearly one million euros to the urban improvement of the neighbourhood," Alfaro highlighted.
"With this intervention, we not only improve the water supply in fourteen streets, but we also advance in the comprehensive renovation of the neighbourhood," Alfaro noted, highlighting other recent actions such as the opening of the Virgen de la Cabeza Medical Centre or the future rehabilitation of the old Music Conservatory, included in the Elda Parte de Ti Plan, endowed with 40 million euros.
The mayor emphasised that this project is part of a broader commitment to "modernise the city, improve the daily lives of people, and make Elda a more humane, sustainable, and efficient city in the use of essential resources such as water."
