The renovation of the Elda Bullring and its surroundings is one step closer to becoming a reality. On Monday morning, the City Council's Governing Board approved the final awarding of the works that will transform this emblematic city space into "a modern, accessible, sustainable, and multifunctional environment open to all Elda residents."
The works have been awarded to the joint venture formed by Audeca and González Soto companies for an amount of 2,266,000 euros, VAT included. Therefore, the works are expected to commence in approximately two months to realise this ambitious project, which has an estimated execution period of 15 months, according to municipal sources.
This intervention will bring a structural change to this city landmark, affecting both the bullring itself and its immediate urban surroundings. All roads surrounding the bullring will be transformed, creating new recreational and landscaped areas where everyone can enjoy outdoor leisure moments surrounded by green spaces, recreational areas, and shaded spots, along with the necessary urban furniture.
Additionally, universal accessibility throughout the area will be improved, facilitating residents' passage by removing architectural barriers that may currently hinder their mobility. The recovery of the Bullring itself will also have its own identity, turning the Elda arena into a new multipurpose space open to the public, where culture takes centre stage, hosting concerts, presentations, and festive galas, as well as various events where Elda residents are the protagonists, according to the same sources.
This renovation of the Bullring will also create a stage mouth in the stands to host concerts, leaving more space for the audience and increasing the capacity to nearly 9,000 spectators, 4,000 in the stands and 4,800 in the arena itself.
Similarly, the bullring will become an open and passable space, allowing people to cross through it. Additionally, it will feature dining areas to bring life to the entire area, making the Bullring a part of daily life for the residents.
The local government considers this project a unifying instrument for the city, highlighting a very unique identity space that dates back to the 1940s. Hence, the importance of preserving the elements and classic physiognomy of this site, maintaining the identity and heritage features of the entire bullring, as detailed by municipal sources.
With this awarding, progress continues on the "ambitious" investment plan 'Elda parte de ti', launched by the local government and endowed with more than 40 million euros to transform the city in terms of accessibility, sustainability, green spaces, and children's leisure, as well as the conservation of local heritage. A project to be executed in the 2025-2028 four-year period, which "is the most important plan developed in the city's history, both economically and in the depth of the planned interventions."
The plan follows the path initiated through the 'Plan Elda Renace', with which the Elda City Council, through the Department of Investments and Public Space, enhanced various squares, streets, and neighbourhoods of the city to improve citizens' lives. Among others, the renovation of Plaza de Arriba, the comprehensive reform of the Feria Cocoliche neighbourhood, and the enhancement of Plaza Joan Miró stand out.
