Recent rains have prompted the Elche City Council to intensify mosquito fumigation efforts across all districts of the municipality, aiming to prevent the hatching of larvae in both small and large water accumulations.

The councillor for the area, Inma Mora, stated that the company in charge is inspecting various areas classified as flood-prone "to determine where we need to intensify larvicidal and adulticidal treatments to prevent, as much as possible, the hatching of mosquitoes after the rains."

The council has requested cooperation from local residents to avoid accumulating water in containers, flower pots, or swimming pools.

Estefanía Hernández, the head of the fumigation company CTL, explained that "after the rains, regular work has been suspended, and we have begun inspections and larvicidal treatments using non-toxic biological products in all wet areas, ponds, and any newly formed breeding grounds." These treatments are repeated weekly or whenever adult mosquitoes are detected in specific areas of vegetation, salt marshes, or reed beds.

Additionally, she reminded that "under no circumstances can treatment be carried out within private properties or directed at houses, which are often breeding grounds for the Asian tiger mosquito, a species that can breed in a small amount of water that may accumulate in saucers, pots, pools, or pool covers during winter."

In this regard, Inma Mora has issued a call for cooperation to all residents of Elche's districts to "try, as much as possible, not to accumulate water in containers and, if possible, to carry out some form of treatment within their homes."
