Elche

Elche's dream of promotion to the top tier is more alive than ever. The narrow victory against Racing de Ferrol (1-0), thanks to a goal by Crevillente's Josan, reaffirms Eder Sarabia's team as the sole leader of the second division and, therefore, the main candidate for promotion to the elite.
Elche, without the cohesive play seen in other matches, relied on the talent of its attacking players to unlock the game on the wings. A clearance by Naldo into his own net, just past the 20-minute mark, was the first local offensive action, followed shortly by a central shot from Nico Fernández into the hands of Jesús Ruiz.
The Galician team also had its chance with a long-range shot from Álvaro Giménez that narrowly missed surprising an advanced San Román. When the match seemed most difficult for Elche, a personal action by Nico Fernández opened the scoring and dismantled Racing de Ferrol's solid defensive work.
The Argentine skillfully and fortunately carried the ball and crossed to the far post for Josan, who was honoured before the match for his 250 appearances, to push the ball into the net.
The punishment for the Galician team could have been worse, as the referee, just before halftime, awarded a penalty for non-existent handball by Puric, although VAR called the referee to review, leading to a reversal of the decision.
After the break, Elche enjoyed more space and was able to control the match comfortably. Josan continued to be the main offensive reference for the Ilicitano team, which had the chance to seal the victory with a shot by Álvaro Núñez that Jesús Ruiz saved.
Racing de Ferrol, improved by substitutions, stepped forward in the final minutes, although their only notable attacking option was a free-kick by Raúl Blanco that went over the bar.
Meanwhile, Elche will have 392 tickets available, priced at 20 euros, for the Visiting Fans section at the Nuevo Mirandilla Stadium, for the match corresponding to the 35th round of LaLiga Hypermotion. The match will take place on Saturday, April 12, at 18:30, against Cádiz.
