Elche

Elche is in fine form, and the last-minute victory against Zaragoza, with a goal from Rashani, has placed them in direct promotion spots, the dream goal of all the franjiverde fans.
Under the guidance of Eder Sarabia, the franjiverde team has returned to the direct promotion zone to Primera 32 matchdays after the last time they occupied one of the top two spots in the standings. The previous occasion when the Elche team entered direct promotion was last season after winning at Villarreal B's field (0-1) on March 10.
Elche, then led by Sebastián Beccacece, remained in that position for one more matchday after defeating Albacete, but fell from second place on matchday 32, following a defeat to Levante on March 24. The Elche team did not return to one of the top two spots in Segunda for the remaining 10 matchdays of last season, nor in the 21 that had been played until the current championship date.
Elche, tied in second place with Racing, whom they defeated 3-0 this season, is three points from the top and will defend their promotion position next matchday in Gijón against Sporting, one of the strongest rivals in the second tier.
For this match, Argentine winger Nico Fernández Mercau will be absent due to suspension. The attacker received his fifth yellow card of the current season on Sunday, in the 73rd minute of the match against Zaragoza (1-0), resulting in a one-match suspension.
The winger has received six cards this season, as he was sent off in the match against Tenerife after receiving two, but he did not serve a suspension cycle for accumulation, only for the expulsion.
Elche still has two players on the verge of suspension, as both full-back José Salinas and forward Agustín Álvarez have been cautioned with four yellow cards during the current championship.
Meanwhile, the squad has set aside the league for 72 hours as they focus on the thrilling Copa del Rey round of 16 clash against Atlético Madrid this Wednesday at the Martínez Valero. Elche has already managed to eliminate another top-flight team, UD Las Palmas, and dreams of causing an upset.
