The Elche Local Police will deploy a special unit of more than 450 officers from October 26 to November 2 due to the Halloween and All Saints' Day festivities. "A plan to provide greater security and peace of mind to the citizens of Elche who decide to visit cemeteries to tidy and visit their relatives," stated the Councilor for Public Services, Claudio Guilabert.

Additionally, on October 30, 31, November 1, and 2, Elche cemeteries will remain open from 7 AM to 7 PM without interruption, and the police force will strengthen its presence and surveillance to facilitate access to cemeteries both in the urban area and in the districts.

The inspector of the Local Police, Senén Rodenas, explained that "we organize a specially reinforced traffic unit on November 1 but will maintain it on the days before and after. On All Saints' Day alone, around 50 officers will cover the cemetery service to ensure that all visitors can reach their loved ones with relative ease and without issues."

Rodenas also assured that a security unit will be set up for the nights before in the cemeteries to prevent vandalism or theft. Also, on the afternoon and night of October 31, due to the Halloween festivities, 60 officers will be deployed throughout the municipality to prevent incidents.

Regarding accessibility to both cemeteries, Claudio Guilabert has requested citizens to use public transport to reach them and announced that from October 29 to November 1, a special urban bus service to cemeteries will be established. Lines K1, K2, L, and M have stops at the Virgen de la Asunción cemetery and will operate from 7 AM to 10:30 PM during this period. For the San Agatángelo cemetery, line CN will operate from 8:30 AM to 6:30 PM.

Additionally, Guilabert assured that there will be a special free bus service to the Torrellano cemetery on October 30, 31, November 1, and 2, departing from the Immaculate Conception parish to the district cemetery and back.

Improvements in cemeteries

Regarding the improvements made in both cemeteries, the Councilor for Public Services detailed that at Virgen de la Asunción, the walls of the niches have been repaired, cornices and ornamental elements have been fixed, as well as streets within the cemetery.

Concerning the San Agatángelo cemetery, Guilabert explained that access has been improved both by the Bolo road and the Rápita, asbestos pipes have been replaced in several cross streets, damages in the niches have been repaired, and the accessibility plan for access for people with reduced mobility continues.

Additionally, the City Council has organized several guided tours to the Virgen de la Asunción cemetery on October 26 and 27 and Sunday, November 3, at 10:30 AM. Furthermore, the All Saints' Day Mass will be held on November 2 at 11 AM in the same cemetery.

This year, on October 30 and 31, volunteers from the Red Cross and the Department of Childhood, Family, and Seniors will visit the cemeteries of Elche and districts between 10 AM and 12 PM to help, guide, and support those in need with cleaning and mobility tasks.

After the festivities, Guilabert announced improvements in both cemeteries, such as the construction of an ossuary at Virgen de la Asunción and the expansion of 388 new niches in San Agatángelo.
