Elche to Relocate Pedestrian Footbridge from Castellón to Span Railway Line in Altabix

Residents of Elche are now closer to seeing the construction of the pedestrian footbridge that will allow safer crossing over the Alicante-Murcia railway line at the Altabix neighbourhood. The Elche council has announced that the project is progressing "smoothly and without incidents," and after preparing the area where the infrastructure will be located, they are awaiting its relocation from Castellón, where it is currently being constructed.

This level crossing addresses a demand from the local community, who will now have a safer connection between sectors E-4 and E-20, divided by the Alicante-Murcia railway line.

The project represents an investment of 2.8 million euros through municipal funds. The footbridge features a deck 5.5 metres wide and rises seven metres above the train track due to the existing terrain slopes. Access will be provided by two ramps from Pintor José Cañizares Street or at the southern end with stairs and a ramp.

The project will be accompanied by the redevelopment of the surrounding area to be accessible to pedestrians and people with reduced mobility, bicycles and scooters, green areas with low-water consumption plants, and LED lighting. Additionally, a protective metal mesh will be installed on the inner sides of the footbridge, which will not obstruct users' views.
