Elche City Council has received permission from Adif to proceed with the construction of the new bridge over the Vinalopó in Altabix, as announced by Elche's Mayor, Pablo Ruz, during his visit to the site where the infrastructure will be located and the ongoing works. This permission was requested on 19 December 2024 following the awarding of the footbridge project.
In the initial months of construction, work has been focused on conditioning and preparing services in the access areas. Once the footbridge, currently being built in Castellón, is completed, it will be transported by trailer to Elche for installation.
The mayor confirmed that "the project is on schedule and the footbridge will be operational by the end of the year." This initiative represents a total investment of 2.8 million euros, with a 12-month execution period, managed by the company Pavasal.
The new Altabix footbridge will connect sectors E-4 and E-20 in Altabix-University, featuring a deck 5.5 metres wide and 44 metres long, elevated 7 metres above the railway due to the terrain's unevenness. Access will be available via two ramps or, at the southern end of the deck, a staircase and an additional ramp.
"This infrastructure will be a significant advancement for local residents as it will connect the two parts of the neighbourhood divided by the railway," the mayor highlighted, adding that "residents have been waiting for this footbridge since 2015, and this government, 15 months after taking office, has shown the commitment to execute the project."
