Elche continues to make strides towards promotion. The team from Elche is improving every day, and this Sunday they proved to themselves that they can thrash top contenders in the race for the top positions.

Eder Sarabia's team scored four goals against Real Oviedo, led by Santi Cazorla, and the scoreline could have been even greater with Nico Fernández missing a penalty and Sory Kaba's goal being disallowed for offside.

Elche has found its centre forward. Agustín Álvarez has already scored four goals this season, enabling swift movement into space by key players such as Josan Fernández, Yago Santiago, and Nico Fernández.

Diaby, who left the field injured in the first half, won the first penalty after being held in the area by an unfortunate Jaime Vázquez. Nico Fernández's penalty was flawless. The first half was thrilling, with a high tempo, chances, end-to-end play, but most importantly, Elche had the clearest opportunities and controlled the game.

After several failed attempts, a seemingly harmless free-kick near the halfway line arrived. With Oviedo's players more focused on heading to the dressing room at halftime, Raúl Guti delivered a long ball to Agustín Álvarez, who did not let it slip away.

With a 2-0 lead, the second half was a walk in the park for Elche. First, Nico Fernández scored the third goal with a powerful shot into the top corner past Escandell, who, despite conceding four goals, was one of his team's best players.

Then, another penalty was conceded by the unfortunate Vázquez. Nico Fernández was on the brink of a hat-trick in the green-and-white shirt. However, his shot went over the crossbar.

The miss did not jeopardize Elche's victory or their excellent performance. In fact, the 4-0 came from a brilliant individual effort by Nico Castro, and shortly after, the referee disallowed a 5-0 goal by Sory Kaba.

With this victory, Elche moves up to seventh in the table and will travel to Heliodoro Rodríguez López next week to face Tenerife on Saturday at 9 PM.
