The Local Government Board of Elche has agreed to grant the title of Honorary Citizen to Juan Perán Ramos, born in Lorca (Murcia) but residing in the Alicante municipality since the age of 13 and founder of Pikolinos, which "has become a benchmark in the footwear world and has achieved extraordinary international prestige in recent decades," the council highlighted in a statement.

The granting of Honorary Citizen is the highest distinction awarded by the Elche City Council to those born in other cities, recognizing their personal qualities or notable merits, and particularly their services for the benefit, improvement, or honor of Elche.

"Juan Perán is a person who embodies all the values of our city and a professional who has carried the name of Elche to all countries of the world with the professionalism that characterizes him, and that is why this City Council believes he is the right person to receive this highest distinction for his great work," stated Councillor Juan de Dios Navarro.

Career

The businessman's career is of "great relevance" in the history of the city's footwear industry, as Juan Perán's family settled in Elche in 1960, and at just 13 years old, he began working in Elche's shoe factories. It was later, in 1974, that he founded his own company, and 10 years later, he took the helm of Pikolinos, which became a leading group of companies in the sector, according to the same sources.

Furthermore, in his long professional career, Juan Perán has been vice president of the Spanish Footwear Institute, a patron of institutions and organizations such as the Scientific and Business Park Foundation of the UMH, the Children's Health Foundation, the Foundation for Business Development, the University Business Foundation, the Elche Acoge Foundation, or the Alicante Port Foundation, among others.

Navarro highlighted that "in his professional work, he has consistently projected as a person and as a businessman, fundamental values for society such as seriousness, honesty, the pursuit of excellence, solidarity, or the value of family." The businessman will receive the distinction next Thursday, January 16, at 7:00 p.m. in the Plenary Hall of the Elche City Council.
