The Mayor of Elche, Pablo Ruz, and the third Deputy Mayor, Aurora Rodil, attended the inauguration of the new facilities of the Elche Local Police located at Plaza 1º de Mayo in the Carrús neighbourhood, where representatives of the security forces and local residents were also present.

"This police station arrives 40 years late, but it has arrived not because there was a security problem in the neighbourhood, but because Carrús needs a police presence to ensure its residents feel secure 24 hours a day, 365 days a year," the mayor highlighted.

The new Local Police facilities now have 24 officers who will carry out control and surveillance tasks in all public spaces of the neighbourhood. The offices cover an area of 87 square metres and, after refurbishment works, they include a reception, a workroom, a meeting room, and a locker room.

According to Ruz, "this is the police station that Carrús needs, and from today, the response times between the Police and the neighbourhood residents will be reduced due to the speed, proximity, immediacy, and the permanent presence of officers in the area."

"This police station will be the beginning of many good things for Carrús; this is the path the municipal government should follow with this neighbourhood, where more than 70,000 people from Elche live, making it the most important in terms of population," the mayor noted, adding that the municipal government has invested 23 million euros in the neighbourhood over the past two years.

For her part, the third Deputy Mayor Aurora Rodil stated that "today marks a before and after in Carrús, a historic neighbourhood of hardworking people and the most populated in Elche." A neighbourhood, she said, that "now has Local Police 24 hours a day, for whatever they need." "There is nothing better than having security to feel free," Rodil pointed out, adding that this municipal government is here to fulfil the wishes of the residents and for Carrús "to shine again."

According to the Commissioner of the Elche Local Police, José Fernández Villafranca, "today is an important day for the city, especially for the Carrús neighbourhood, which so deserves it." He pointed out that with the opening of this police station, "we reaffirm our commitment to security, proximity, and public services."

Villafranca assured that this new headquarters "is not just a building; it is a symbol of the mutual trust that the Local Police have with its citizens and our goal of being closer to you, listening to concerns, and working together for joint and peaceful coexistence."

He thanked the support of the Elche Town Hall in this project "and all the officers with professionalism and dedication who will make this police station a reference in the neighbourhood for service and proximity," and made it clear that "we will continue working with responsibility, transparency, and a vocation for service because security is a right for all and a shared responsibility."
