Elche City Council, through the Department of Women and Casa de la Dona, has launched a new summer campaign to promote harassment-free spaces. This initiative includes three videos that will be shared on social media platforms.
The councillor for the area, Caridad Martínez, emphasised that "the idea is to reach out to young people during a summer season when we have a large influx of tourists and leisure spaces are more crowded," adding that "through this campaign, we reject any form of harassment."
Jesús Quesada, director of Viralizando, noted that each video portrays a different harassment scenario "which unfortunately still occur today and are often normalised." The first video, under the slogan 'Insisting is not flirting, it's pressuring,' will be released this Tuesday, while the second and third videos, with the slogans 'Clothes don't speak, you do, listen' and 'A word can change everything,' will be released between July and August.
"Nowadays, social media is a key tool for delivering these messages as they are platforms where we reach a wide audience. The main goal is for people who experience this type of harassment to see themselves reflected and report their situation," explained Quesada.
