Public spaces in Elche will soon be equipped with 40 new semi-automatic defibrillators. These devices will be visible, easy to use, solar-powered, and directly connected to emergency services to guide users through the necessary procedures for delivering shocks.
The acquisition, managed by the city council, is on a rental basis without a purchase option, costing 59,703 euros for a two-year period with the possibility of a two-year extension. These devices will add to the 75 already available in the municipality.
The spokesperson for the Elche council, Inma Mora, explained that these units will be installed in solar-powered columns, visible in any public area, and will contain all necessary information for correct usage by the public. "These defibrillators will have an integrated system for direct connection to emergency services, providing immediate instructions for safe usage," she stated.
Mora further explained that the next step is to determine the most suitable locations for these defibrillators, aiming to place them near educational centers, sports facilities, or green areas with children's playgrounds.
Additionally, these devices will conduct a daily self-check every 12 hours, assessing battery capacity, electrode status, and internal circuits. They will also be equipped with an intervention kit and a device to assist with cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
