The City Council of Elche, in its commitment to the eternal rest of citizens and their loved ones of the municipality, has completed the construction of 32 niches in the new cemetery, San Agatángelo. The main intention of the municipal government has been to expand this cemetery and improve the conditions and services offered.

The Councilor for Public Services, Claudio Guilabert, visited this project and stated that the next objective is to construct 382 new niches starting in September. This will occur after the adjudication process, with a budget allocation of 1 million euros. Simultaneously, "for 2025, a budget allocation will be included for the construction of 2,000 more niches to close the perimeter of the new cemetery and complete two blocks in the old cemetery, Virgen de la Asunción."

According to Guilabert, "this is about providing solutions and planning for the short, medium, and long term." These works are accompanied by a series of actions such as renewing the pipeline network for public use of water fountains, installing new benches, and planting trees at the request of residents to make this site more accessible and aesthetically pleasing.

Additionally, the council intends to pave the main street of San Agatángelo's facilities, which is currently in poor condition, and improve access by constructing two concrete staircases.

Regarding the cemetery Virgen de la Asunción, the councilor explained that a new ossuary will be built and a lighting project is planned to provide greater security. "Our objective is the recovery and rehabilitation of this cemetery with great artistic and cultural value so that it becomes a reference in funerary art," he added.
