Oscillum, a startup from the Miguel Hernández University Science Park, continues to achieve success with its smart food label. The biotech company has been honoured with the 'People's Choice Award' at the 'Young Inventors 2025' ceremony. This accolade, which comes with a €5,000 prize, was announced yesterday, Wednesday, 18th June, at a gala in Reykjavik, Iceland.
After several weeks of voting, the public chose to recognise the innovative technology of the PCUMH company: it involves smart biosensors that indicate food spoilage based on bacterial growth. This reduces food waste and enhances food safety, while simultaneously promoting sustainability throughout the supply chain.
Oscillum has positively assessed the boost this award provides: "We are very excited and grateful for this recognition, as it shows we are on the right path and that our solution can truly change the world, taking a positive step towards a more sustainable and safer supply chain for everyone."
The promoters of Oscillum, Luis Chimeno, Pilar Granado, and Pablo Sosa, were already recognised last May at the 'Young Inventors 2025' awards, becoming the only Spaniards distinguished in the edition. As part of this recognition, the PCUMH company received a financial endowment, which adds to the one obtained through the 'People's Choice Award'.
These awards are organised by the European Patent Office to recognise innovators worldwide aged 30 or under who use technology to tackle the major global challenges posed by the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These biosensors change colour based on the freshness of the food: from transparent (fresh) to black (spoiled).
