The Department of Education, Culture, Universities, and Employment has announced that it will allocate over 500 positions this week to cover both vacancies and substitutions of teaching staff in educational centers. On Tuesday, 312 positions will be allocated, and on Thursday, another allocation of around 250 positions is expected.
Specifically, it announces that on Tuesday, 244 positions (167 in Primary and 77 in Secondary) will be allocated, in addition to 68 vacancies. These positions will cover maternity/paternity leaves, marriage leaves, common illnesses, and long-term absences, as well as any incidents.
The Regional Secretary of Education, Daniel McEvoy, met with representatives of the ANPE union on Monday and conveyed the administration's commitment to "negotiate with the unions on various issues such as staffing."
Additionally, McEvoy informed the union of the Department's intention to reduce bureaucracy in schools, citing the example of the consultation for choosing the base language in educational centers, "which will be done online to avoid paperwork in schools and institutes."
Moreover, the Department of Education communicated to various unions on Monday how the school arrangement for the 2024-2025 academic year has been finalized, after considering the appeals of the Municipal School Councils and completing the admission process.
Thus, 35 new units have been created in Kindergarten and Primary Education compared to the previous year. The recovery of these classrooms has occurred despite a decrease in the number of births in 2021, with a difference of 887 compared to 2020.
In addition to the census, the Department of Education has considered the needs for reconciliation in rural areas and areas at risk of depopulation to determine the units, promoting early childhood education, incentivizing necessary complementary services, and increasing the allocation of necessary personal resources.
On the other hand, 41 new UECO (Specific Classrooms in Ordinary Centers) have been enabled to cater to students with special educational needs.
The Department of Education reminds that the school arrangement is under constant review to address unforeseen schooling needs and population migration movements, among others.
