EasyJet is now the second airline with the most traffic at Alicante-Elche airport. The company has managed to increase its passengers by 12% thanks to the base it opened at the Alicante terminal last spring.
Now, almost a year after this opening, the low-cost airline will continue to invest in the terminal located in El Altet with the launch of two new routes to southern Europe. These are flights to Naples, which will extend into the high season, and Athens, which is one of the new destinations this summer at the airport.
Despite increasing its number of flights in spring and summer by almost double digits compared to the previous summer, EasyJet has cancelled its connection with one of the UK cities. Thus, the airline will continue flying to Belfast but will cease operations to Belfast International Airport, maintaining only connections with Belfast City.
This connection, which will no longer be available, was one of the new routes introduced with the opening of its base, and it had two weekly frequencies. Despite being cancelled, EasyJet offers three flights to Belfast George Best Airport on its website.
Thus, flights to this terminal from Alicante will only be available on October 26, 30, and November 2. The first of these days will depart at 7:20 am, arriving at 9:25 am, while the flight on the 30th will head to Belfast at 3:30 pm, landing at 5:35 pm. The last flight from Alicante will again be on Sunday, November 2, at 7:20 am.
Indeed, EasyJet not only maintains its connection with the city of Belfast but also increases its frequencies. Starting this March, it will operate seven days a week on its route to Belfast International, and in July, it will increase to nine weekly flights, with double frequencies on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
It is not the only connection that will be cancelled at Alicante-Elche airport for the summer. Several companies, despite growing in the high season, have announced the cancellation of flights to several of their destinations.
Ryanair cancelled its connection with Santander airport due to differences over regional airport fees with AENA, and it also abandons its route with Billund, the city of LEGO in Denmark and one of its first routes in Alicante.
Vueling is another that recently announced the cancellation of its flights to up to three destinations. These are the connections with Santiago, Rome, and Zurich. Precisely, the latter will also be operated by EasyJet, which has increased to four the weekly frequencies.
