Twenty-six people have lost their lives on Spanish roads in 25 traffic accidents occurring between 3:00 PM on April 11 and midnight on the 21st, according to the DGT's provisional report released this Tuesday. This represents one less fatality than last year's Easter Week.
Regarding the type of road, the number of fatalities on motorways or highways has decreased by two compared to a year ago. However, deaths on conventional roads remain the most numerous, with more than eight out of every ten.
In terms of accident types, fatalities from head-on and side collisions have increased by three and two respectively. Conversely, deaths from road departures have decreased by three compared to last Easter.
There have been 12 fatalities who were vulnerable users: eight motorcyclists, two cyclists, and two pedestrians. In cars, the mode with the most loss of life, deaths have increased by two compared to last year.
By age, the group with the most fatalities was 45 to 54 years old, with nine deaths. By time, most deaths occurred between 2:00 PM and 7:59 PM. On April 13, there were the most victims.
Additionally, seven of the 14 people who lost their lives in cars and vans were not wearing seat belts.
By region, Catalonia recorded the highest number of fatalities, with five people, while in seven communities (Principality of Asturias, Extremadura, Galicia, Basque Country, La Rioja, and Ceuta and Melilla) there were no deaths.
This 2024, long-distance travel has increased by 8.4%: over these 10 and a half days, there have been 16.7 million journeys.
So far this year, 307 people have died on the roads, 14 fewer than in the same period last year.
