It has been a frequent topic of conversation in recent days: the streets and beaches across the Costa Blanca have seen a massive influx of tourists during the key dates of the recently concluded Easter Week. Many residents of the region's main destinations felt there were even more visitors than initially expected, something now confirmed by data.

According to the hotel association Hosbec, occupancy in all destinations of the Valencian Community has "exceeded all expectations," significantly aided by the "last-minute effect" spurred by favourable weather forecasts that were confirmed throughout the holiday period.

Thus, at the regional level, Easter Week closed with a spectacular 85% hotel occupancy. In Benidorm and Gandía, the two best-performing areas, it soared to 92%, achieving full capacity in both cities.

As explained by Hosbec, the confirmation of favourable weather forecasts allowed for a significant influx from the national mid-range market, which, combined with "maximum programming at the three airports of the Community," enabled Easter Week to close "with one of the best records in recent years."

Marián Cano: "We are a tourist benchmark during this holiday period"

The Minister of Innovation, Industry, Commerce and Tourism, Marián Cano, highlighted the positive hotel occupancy results recorded in the Valencian Community during Easter Week, stating that "these figures confirm that we continue to be a reference tourist destination during this holiday period." Cano recalled that Easter Week is "the first major event of the tourist calendar of the year, with primarily national demand and a high loyalty rate."

Excluding Benidorm, the Costa Blanca as a whole saw hotel occupancy reach 89.1% of available rooms, with Alicante province leading the Community, far ahead of Valencia (86%) and Castellón (82%).

In addition to Benidorm's 92%, other notable destinations within the Costa Blanca included Calpe, which reached 86% of its beds occupied, the Alicante South area with 84%, and l'Alfàs del Pi at 83%.

Elche reaches full occupancy

Elche's Tourism Councillor, Irene Ruíz, highlighted that during the first weekend, coinciding with Palm Sunday, hotel occupancy in the city was 91%, "an increase of 16 points compared to the same weekend in 2024, which was 75%." From Maundy Thursday to Easter Sunday, the average was 90%, although several establishments recorded occupancies above 95%, with some nearing full capacity: "This is a testament to the growing importance of Easter Week as a tourist attraction in Elche, and we will continue with our promotion and dissemination efforts," she assured.

The leaders of the hotel association Hosbec explain that "compared to Easter Week 2024, the growth has been an average of ten points, but it should be noted that in 2024 this holiday period was at the end of March, with worse weather conditions."

The effects of this growing trend in hotel occupancy are expected to extend throughout the second half of April, culminating with the May Day holiday. For those dates, Benidorm already reports over 78% occupancy, while the rest of the Costa Blanca remains at 70.6%, although it is hoped that the last-minute effect will significantly boost these figures.
